LIFE has successfully concluded an agreement for the acquisition of a substantial parking facility in the central area of Mechelen.

LIFE is delighted to have come to an agreement with the Moorkens family for the acquisition and reconversion of the Centerparking site in the heart of Mechelen.

The Centerparking site is located right between the Ijzerenleen and the Bruul, 100 m from Mechelen’s Market Square and offers unique views of the
Sint-Romboutskathedraal and 360° panorama over the centre of Mechelen and the wide surroundings. The above-ground car park was operated by Indigo until the end of last year, however it has been clear for some time that an above-ground car park in such a prominent location in the centre of Mechelen no longer has a place. Given its central location and the existing structure with its reconversion potential, the project subscribes perfectly to LIFE’s strategy.

LIFE proposes a mixed-use development with large-scale ground-floor retail, co-living and complementary reca. With this acquisition, LIFE confirms its pioneering role as Belgium’s leading co-living developer. ‘Following the development of innovative co-livings in Liège (ARC), Antwerp (Kammenstraat & Zwartzusters), Brussels (ATLAS) and Herentals (Francesco site), we are very pleased to be able to realise a new residential offering in beautiful Mechelen as well,’ says Toon Haverals, Managing Partner of LIFE.be. The permit will be submitted by the summer of 2025 with the ambition of starting the reconversion of this eyesore of every Mechelenian in early 2026 into a dynamic, multifunctional and architectural gem.
